SMARTTECH has been designing and manufacturing 3D scanners for 20 years and has now developed a new scanner which the company claims is the answer to the unique needs of the archeological and musicological field. The SMARTTECH MICRON3D color 18 MP has a temperature-resistant carbon-fiber casing and replaceable dust filters making it easier to better handle the device directly on excavation sites.
The 3D scanning technology, based on white LED light rather than laser, reduces the risk of influencing fragile objects due to laser exposure and is completely safe for historical materials. MICRON3D color 18 MPx can be used for eternal archiving, creating virtual museums, and preparing copies of objects for 3D printing in color. It allows easy scanning of objects, including those that are shiny and dark. After the application of special dedicated products, harmless to delicate artifact surfaces, it is also possible to scan transparent objects with MICRON3D.
Direct integration of the scanning head with a shadeless lighting system helps to capture the actual color of the measured object. This scanner model will also have application in the animation and video gaming industries. The scanner has been designed to be used by non-technical users with both the device and the software not requiring advanced metrological skills nor does it have exceedingly high hardware
requirements to operate. The scanner also does not require calibration after purchase and is ready to use out of the box.
The automatic data processing module guarantees a fast and easy way of obtaining a precise reflection of the object, without the necessity to acquire any specialist knowledge. Automatic functions of MICRON3D color 18 MPix enable the user to perform dimensioning,
make virtual cross-sections, measure the surface area and the volume of a scanned object which allows gathering of all needed data for full object digitalization. This model also enables the creation of a colored deviation map, used for evaluating the deviations on an object, that could appear with time or as a result of conservation processes. This option gives the user the possibility to specify an acceptable margin of error and generate an associated report.
